Emerging Patterns and Computational Design of Filter Cellular Automata

Abstract
We study one-dimensional cellular automata (CA) using two different formulations, one polynomial and one involving mod 2. Emphasis is placed on the existence of coherent structures. Several new filter CAs are found that are capable of supporting either attractors or solitons. Some of these new rules are reversible.
